I see its raises the oxtane rating of gasoline.
So is this really Methenol?

MMT is not methanol.....methanol's chemical equation is CH₃OH, while MMT is (CH₃C₅H₄)Mn(CO)₃ . This is something completely different, but it seems to do essentiallythe same thing....raise the octane level of gasoline. Here's a wiki for MMT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...anganese_tricarbonyl

You should see all the various components of race gas if you saw an analysis. How about 1-cis-2-cis-3-Trimethylcylopentane or 1-t-3-D-M-cyclohexane/1-c-4-D-M-cyclohexane? Personally, I like toluene, it's effective and easy to pronounce.

Sounds about as nasty as MTBE.

I think MTBE (at least at this point) is worse than MMT. MTBE had a bad tendency to pollute ground water supplies. So far everything I've read about MMT doesn't mention ground water contamination at all. Although there are plenty of reports out there warning of the dangers of inhaling manganese particles.

Geeze. It took 18 years of court battles to reverse the EPA's ruling. I wonder how much that increased the price of MMT?
