i just thought if this after watching a hotrod show on speed. use one of those fuel injection conversion kits for carb'd engines inplace of the swapped motors ECM. since most of those can be tuned on the fly, that would be the easiest and cheapest way to get the motor tuned. unless getting some custom made fuel maps and whatnot for that motors ecm is cheaper in the long run than they conversion kit. in my case, it would have been a really good idea. but its too late now.

The ECM does a lot more than just control the fuel injection. What are you going to use for ignition timing? I assume all smog equipment will be gone too such as O2 sensor, EGR and the purge tank. Also, don't expect very good gas milage.

If you are talking about a stand alone computer such as the AEM EMS, then there is a lot of code tables involved and you can damage the engine if you don't know what you are doing. That is not to mention that most stand alone engine management systems are very expensive.

im sure some of those kits have provisions for crank sensors to make the spark correct by. or the use of a distributor is always a choice if the engine came with one. the one i saw had a o2 sensor. it was by edelbrock. WTF is a EGR? oh, its that thing i had removed on my setup and deleted from the ecm. yea, that. lol if its a race car, you shouldnt expext any good mpg. im sure some of those pricier kits can be tuned for decent gas mileage with how fuel prices have been going lately.

keep in mind this was just an idea. and its not for every engine. who knows if there is one that is v6 compatible. taking away the ecm, the most you can do is carb it. and from carbing it, you can go the fuel injection conversion. if you are running a stick too, it shouldnt be too hard since there isnt a auto to be getting involved with. i dont think what i am thinking of is a engine management system. unless they are an EMS. then im just confused. but still, JUST AN IDEA. dont hurt my feelings over this :P
