Where did you buy your Stant 13818 thermostat? Does that come mail order only? My fan did not turn on yesterday on my FIRST RUN around the block twice (after about 4 weeks of ownership), finally got my brakes working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : Car is 2.8.
I don't know if my temp gauge is accurate or not, does anyone? LOL! Cooling fan runs fine with A/C on, still need to test the sensor circuit. But I am going to change out the stock temp sensor to the 195-185 temp sensor, just need to get the appropriate thermostat.

Any good parts store --- Fisher/Federated - bumper to bumper - carquest - can get you a stant or motorad. If not in stock usually next day! Fan switch through standard motors products (www.smpcorp.com) to look it up yourself - again in stock or next day at the real part stores!

So the stores carry the 195-185 fan switch too? If so that would be easier. Jim

Some of the parts store carry thermostats that are pretty flimsy. I've had a couple bend. You want the good AC Delco one or perhaps one of the Borg Warner or the like.

It is not uncommon for the fan switch to not turn on the fan as you were driving around the block twice. The fan is only supposed to come on after the coolant temp is above 230 or so. The car was designed to use a 195* thermostat. If you use a lower one , you will loose a few MPG of your fuel mileage. I went from no thermostat to a 170, then a 180. Each was a move upwards of about 2-3 mpg. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Joe Crawford Texas

I don't like the loss of mileage per gallon, especially with gas costs as they are. If I use a 195 thermostat, I then should not use the 195-185 switch? I was tying to test yesterday idleing the car (ambient temp here was 92F) and getting the switch to kick in the fan. How long (approximately) should this take in time at 90+ degrees air temp? Them temp gauge after 4-5 minutes only went up 1/4 the way.

I let mine idle in the garage for 30 mins before my fan came on. You can't always go by the gauge in these cars. The first 1/4 mark is 193* with Winadl hooked up to my laptop and running. It has to be around 230* or so for the fan to come on. Rodney Dickman has a fan switch that that it about 10-15 degrees under the stock one. That is the one you need if you want lower fan engagement. This will let the fan turn off and not discharge your battery. Turn on your AC and the fan should come on, even if the AC isn't working. If your thermostat is running 195, and you have a 195 fan switch , then your fan would never shut off. The altenater of your car would be working overtime, and maybe charging troubles would be the next thing to fix. Most of the Fiero's on the street are using the factory switches. Tell you something? If you think your fan switch is bad, put a new stock one back in it, or Dickmans just under stock one.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
They built it this way because it works.
Yeh they did some things wrong. But a lot of stuff was right. We, and our Fiero's, are the proof. Mine is 22 years old. Did I tell you it gets 40 MPG with the 195 thermostat driving under 70 MPH. Over 70 it drops to 38. Turn on the AC and it drops to 36

I have another switch (stock) I can put in but first I will check the thermostat and see what temp is it. Then I will idle the car and see if the fan will turn on.
Yes the cooling fan runs with a/c on and the fan runs when I short the control wire that is connected to the fan temp switch- so the electrics are good. My connector is really brittle, well it has been baked for 23 years.
I got really concered the other day running my car as no fan kicked in. As I stated above this was my first real test drive. I was very happy with the way the car ran. (could not drive it before since it had no useful brakes)
It will take some time to get the car up to snuff, but I really like the way it handles an runs.
40 MPG on the highway, you got a 2.8?
This question might be OT but when does the fan motor in the rear trunk kick on to push air to the distributor and alternator (you know thru those silver air tubes)?
