I replaced my hoses and the front hose bracket attaches to the upper arm with what I think is a 1/4" rivet. Can't find 1/4" rivets here in Tucson. Anyway is that the size-1/4"? I am certain 1/8" is too small.

I recently installed braided SS brake lines on my 86GT. For the front brake line clip I used the 1/4" plastic rivets that is used for the rear inner fender splash shields.

When I replaced both hoses a while back I was at this same spot. I used a tap to thread the hole and then used an allen headed bolt to secure it to the upper a-arm. I have about a year, or about 7000 miles on it now since I did this fix. OK so far.

josef-
I like that idea. I considered a 1/4 x 20 bolt and nut but was not certain it would stay. I suppose I could use a nut with the nylon lock.
Do you recall what size bolt you installed after tapping the hole?

Mine have 1/4"-20 bolts with lock washers. They've been going for about 3 years with no problems.

I can't even remember if I ate breakfast this morning now.

I also used a lock washer. Its been to long ago now for me to remember the size. I used a drill bit set to find the closest hole size, then took it to the hardware store where we were able to get it set up. I figured it might be a pain to try to get a nut underneath the thing, and then a wrench on the nut to tighten it down.

I got one of those 150 piece set of drill bit sets from Harbor Freight. I don't use any of the bits for drilling. Metal's way to soft. But it is an exellent way to measure hole sizes. All of the bit sizes are marked on the holder.

Why not just use a thread cutting screw?

Hi,
I replaced all my hoses with braided SS ones.
Had to grind the head of the rivet to get the old one off !

I used a M6 x 16 bolt (dia 6mm with 16mm length of thread), two washers and a nylox nut to attach the new hose. Didn't even need to redrill the hole.

Since most of the Fiero is metric, you guys will just have to buy metric bolts like us Europeens - no, only kidding !!

Actually, the M6 x 16mm bolt you used is very similar in size to the 1/4"-20 x 3/4" bolt that I used.
