Anyone tried mating a 4t60e or 4t65 up with a stock 2.8? I know there are some guides that visit the 4t60 installation. Is the 465 compatible? Would using the 7730 ecm be a god match for either?

7730 ecm does not have the capability to control the 60e,65e, or 65ehd transmissions. You would need a stand alone controller.

Intresting, I thought I read that the 7730 had the ability to correct for speedometer problems induced by these trannys. What about the 4t40? I believe they were used in some Grand Ams.

I agree the 4t60 would be the easiest swap but the 4t60 would probably need to be rebuilt, driving the cost of such a swap into the realm of a 3800na/4t60e swap. If I did do a 4t60 swap, Could I still do a 3800na or 3500 (lx9) motor swap later? Haven't seen this done before. That's why my original post was inquiring about the "E" tranny swap. Looks like in my area (DFW), either a 2k5/2k6 3800na/4t60E or a lx9/4t45E are going for roughly $1300.My motor and tranny currently are in good shape even though they've got ~140k miles on them. Looking for a way to get better gas mileage than the current 18-20, plus I eventually want the extra power of the newer motor.

Just did a 4T60 swap into an 86GT along with a remaned 2.8.
Cost for the conversion was relativly cheap. The car is also getting around 37mpg.
Well worth the swap.
