My factory manual shows a brake vacuum line filter behind the engine(twd front of the car. First, I cannot seem to find it and second does it ever need cleaned or replaced if it is actually there.

Bill - Are you looking at a 88 ? The filter was not used the 88 cars. (maybe other?)

From my build thread:

Picked up a new brake booster filter - according to the Big Fiero Book, a common source of vacuum leaks due to heat cycling near the exhaust manifold.

Mine was original - here is the new one.
