I was at the local paint & body supply place today and asked them if they had any POR-15. They didn't have any, but the guy claimed this Chassis Saver is the same stuff. Anyone tried it out yet? I'm thinking of using it on the rusty parts of my frame while I have the front end taken apart.

POR-15 was a brand name developed by the late Stan Coleman of Morristown NJ. Stan just repackaged a tough Isocyanate paint that he was buying from a paint supplier (in Europe I believe) and the POR-15 "snake oil" ruse began. There are many different Isocynate paints sold on the market today that use exactly the same formula as POR-15. ALWAYS wear gloves when using this stuff as its made from the same stuff as crazy glue. Once you get it on you, it never comes off, until it wears off.

I have heard that the orginal por15 is not even close to some of the imitators when it comes to quality.

I've been using it extensively on the choptop Pantera.

It's identical to POR-15, even has the same MSDS.

It is less expensive than POR-15.

As Dennis indicated, if you get it on yourself, you have to get used to it

All the stuff I read on the link sound the same as POR15, but I don't remember POR15 recommending a sandblasted surface. Other than that it seems the same.

Do they also offer something like POR15's chassis black overcoat?

Allthough not recommended for a hand cleaner. I have found Berryman BC12 Carburetor cleaner in spray cans will remove allmost anything from your hands that you get on them, also one of the best part cleaners I have found but don't get it in a cut or in your eyes! Good day.

I used a probuct called "rust bullet" before, and it was total crap. Rust came right through it. The POR-15 coats on my other projects have held very well. I checked out the website for chassis saver, and it sounds good, but ya know.. for the few dollar savings, is it worth it if the product is inferior? We know POR-15 is kinda the "standard" that others are judged upon. There seems to be a reason for that. At this point, personally, I stick with POR-15
