I noticed that the catalytic converter rattles and shakes when I accelerate slightly. I hear it more from behind the driver seat. Is this normal or must I install a new one? I believe it is the pipe hitting against the cradle. Any help?

Most problems I have ever had with cats was the internals rattling inside. I had to replace the cat a couple times for this.

so which one should I buy?

Will this prevent the rattling from occuring during accelerations? mind you, once I reach 20 mph, the rattle is gone. Could it simply be some sort of bracket? I guess I should take it to midas and see for sure if it is the cat converter. I believe it is because it shakes when I look under the car and when I press the acceleration pedal.

Chris

It could be a loose heat shield on the cat itself that is making the noise. You could look at it to see if this is the case. You could then try to remove the heat shield and be very careful where you park, or replace the cat with a high flow model from the Fiero store or Rodney Dickman.

Where are the cat converter heat shield(s) located? I've been under there 3 times to look at it and I haven't noticed it?

The cat heat shield is actually welded to the cat itself.

I guess that is probably the main problem or the thing that is rattling because everything else seems fine. I will take a look.
