It's possible that the speedometer gear on the speed sensor is damaged. Is your odometer working?

Have you checked fuses?

My speedo and odometer quit working due to blown fuse.

Just in case you didn't know, the Fiero has an electronically driven speedo/odo, no cable. Diagnosis and troubleshooting is per an electrical system. Could be the speedo gear, bad sender, bad electronics in the gauge itself, fuses, etc. or a wire anywhere between.

all fuses are ok, i think it might be something loose behind the dash or somewhere in the car, or a sensor, oh well at least i got the whole weekend to find it!!

kk, remove the bottom dash cover plate. look up right under the speedo head, you will see a plug that plugs up onto the speedo board. remove it, check for corrosion, and re plug it a few times.

I had my oil changed this past winter and they forgot to tighten the filter up, so I had oil spray all over my engine. The speedo and tach started sticking all over the place, don't know if the oil could have caused it or not, but eventually they both started working again. I would think that the speedo would be unaffected by oil, because wouldn't it just go to the front tires, or does it go to the engine compartment and then to the front of the car?!?
