I'm thinking about building a ground up 3.4L pushrod motor to swap into the 86 over the upcoming winter. Where do you get things like cams and pistons and such?

There are many camshafts available as long as you use the Fiero ignition system on your swap.
Crane, Comp Cams, Crower, Edelbrock, etc. all make cams for the 60* V-6 engines. The best source at the best price would be: http://www.summitracing.com/
You can also get lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, double-roller timing chain, ARP head studs, etc. from there as well.

Pistons are a little harder. P.A.W. sells the stock and over-bore for the 3.4L and Ross Pistons can make you a custom set to increase compression. There is also the 3.4DOHC pistons which raise compression as well.

The trick to getting power out of a 3.4L is porting the heads and using a good flowing intake like the Trueleo (for EFI) or Edelbrock (for carb) and setting the exhaust up with decent manifolds or headers. There are numerous threads about building and modifying a 3.4L. Just do a search thru the archives.

You can get around 190 to 230hp normally aspirated out of the engines depending on how much you want to modify it.

If you are building a 3.4L for higher performance, I would NOT recommend the ARI 2.8L to 3.4L blocks. These are hand selected 2.8L engines that are bored to 3.4L's.
The reason they are hand selected is depending on tolerance's some 2.8L blocks cannot be bored due to the cylinder walls would be too thin after they bore them. So they select blocks that are on the "+" side of tolerance which makes the cylinder walls the bare minimum thickness. You do NOT want to increase compression/power on a block with minimum cylinder wall thickness unless you want to blow the engine up. Also it should be noted that the 3.1L and 3.4L blocks have larger oil galleys for improved oiling. You would not get this benefit on a bored 2.8L block.

Use the stock 3.4L pushrod block from an F-body. It is stronger, has better oil galleys, and will last a lot longer than the ARI junk.

The 3.4s actually have added a new, 3rd oil galley to provide oil for the bottom end while all the 2.8-3. blocks borrow the bottom end oil from the cam journals. The 3.4 blocks are beefier with external webbing and much better inside as well.
