I have an 85 GT 2.8 stock with 165k on it. It sat for 5 years with a blown head gasket. I got it running. Head and intakes gaskets where just done.

It has been acting up a bit lately. For the last few days it has idled fine, but sputtered / missed from idle, but as long as I kept on the gas it was fine. If I let off the gas it sputtered.

I backed the car today and it died and would not restart. Fuel filter was changed this AM. I checked the fuel pump pressure and it was 35. Spec is 40-45. This could be part of the issue, but not likely the whole issue. I took the distributer cap off which is new. I noted that the coil at the base of the distributer shaft was shedding its cloth coating, showing it's age. Is this replaceable?. The rotating metal parts have surface rust. Should I brush this off? Plugs are new, wires are not. On my list though.

How often do the ignition coils go bad? I checked it with a VOM and it seemed with in spec. Maybe the ignition module? Good source for these?

Dead in the driveway in Nashville

I get a lot of people asking me "what kind of car is that?" : )
