ok so my decklid key broke of inside of the thing when my dad was driving my car around for a few weeks. i would normaly try to get it out with a pair of pliars or something but it broke off to far in there that i could not get a anything down in there to pull it out. luckly i alread had a spare made. the deck lid now opens up with a pocket knife. i do have the trunk switch on it so it still opens and all but there are times i would like to use the key instead of walking to the front of the car to open it. that and i would like to put my stuff back in the trunk and know that it is safe. so how can i get the key out. and if i got to take it apart can someone post pics of it torn apart. my book did not make it back with the car from my parents so i am kind of stupid without it. please and thank you.

Here's what I recently read, but I never tried it myself.
Take the broken key end, put just a drop of super glue on the end, wait a couple of seconds, then push it into the lock, contacting the other half of the broken key. Hold it still for about 30 seconds--or whatever the superglue instructions tell you to do. Pull it out and hope the glue stuck.
Do not use an excessive amt of superglue--you will have the key glued in place to the tumblers.
If you no longer have the key half, cut the cotton swab off a Qtip, put the super glue on the shaft of the Qtip and try that.

I did get a broken key out of a Fiero door once, by straightening out a small gold fish hook, slightly knocking the barb down a bit, then push the straightened out hook into the keyhole with a pair of pliers. You want to push it in from the top part of the slot--not the bottom. The objective is to let the point go past the end of the broken key, and let the barb grab one of the recesses of the key on the tumbler side. You will probably have to push it in and pull it out multiple times before you 'hook' it.

Good luck--it's all hit or miss.

That method seems a bit scary but i suppose the only other choice would be pull the lock assembly and im not to sure about how it is on fieros but most cars from that era it isn't too easy.

If the above does not work... you could remove the lock from the car and work on it. Would be alot easier on the work bench, Might even fall out if the lock was upended and a tap tap tap to dislodge the broken key.

Good luck

Notch back or GT?

I have not worked on the notchback but the GT is a piece of cake.

The GT rear lock is held in byh a screw in the cover housing and a clip on the barrel. It is very easy to replace.

You can remove the lock, then the linkage on the back of the tumbler. You should be able to see straight through the lock at that point. Use a paper clip and push the broken key out either end.

I had that once. Very tough to get out without the right tools, and with so little workspace. Take it to a locksmith; look one up in the yellow pages, it will cost you 10 bucks at the most.
