I was looking to completely redo the exhaust on my 1986 v6, but I got to thinking maybe I could get a better sound from it. I was wondering what other people have done to get a better sound? Ideally I would like a low rumble, but it being a 2.8 liter, I imagine that is hard to come by.

I haven't personally changed my exhaust other than cutting out the kitty,

but I have heard that flowmaster 40's sound nice with the 2.8. I understand

your "low rumble" love. I want it bad

i just put in the flowmaster i've been asking everyone about for a while. My dad got a 15" 80 series for about $100 and gave me a Catco universal Cat. The 80 series is awesome. Got the rumble and almost a v8 sound. Definently doesn't sound like an import or v6. It takes some custom work since its 2.5" in and out but if your willing to get a custom pipe from the cat to the inlet and a new hanger system it shouldn't be too bad. Although the 40 series from WCF might be cheaper in the long run even though its almost $200. Installation alone was a crap load for the 80 series because of all the custom stuff (everything for me if my dad didn't help would have been about $400) instead of $200+ maybe another $100 or so to get it put in. Havn't had experience with other mufflers but i very very happy with my flowmaster. Only difference is my bigger cam and .030 bored block.

If you don't need a CAT, the Magnaflow 6" round fits in the CAT position. I have my exhaust ported at the manifolds and at the Y and into a 2.5" pipe. The 2.5" pipe lowers your exhaust note alot. I then have a T joint after the rear cradle notch. It is truly deep and not obtrusively loud.
