What size socket does the axle nut on a 99 GTP take? As near as I can tell using my plastic metric rule it looks like 35mm is this correct? thanks for the help

The 22mm axles use a 30mm nut ~ Like the Fiero The 24mm axles use a 32mm nut ~ Like the Minivans and I think the G6 The 27mm axles use a 34mm nut ~ Like the Grand Prix GTP

Went to the local Autozone yesterday to get a socket, they were out of 35mm but the friendly behind the counter guy didn't think 35 was right. He got a replacement axle off the shelf and he was right 34mm socket fit the replacement. Sooo i got home and guess what the 34 was too small, 35mm is the one!

The large pattern A-body axle nuts are 36 mm.

Yeah, those are A-bodies. The minivans technically are something else, but they have the same front suspension. They even have the same rear suspension, just with different wheelbase, etc.
Yeah, GP's are W-bodies.

Yeah, GP's are W-bodies.
The minivans are U-body platforms but use the 32mm axle nuts. Well at least my 2002 AWD Montana does. I had to change both front bearings last spring.

Yeah, the U-bodies I didn't think the U-bodies continued with the A-body suspension hardware that long. The last A-body car built was the '95 or '96 Buick Century.

1998 is when they changed everything. They dumped the plastic body panels and went to the metal body. They also got rid of the 3800 and moved to the 3400 for the engine. My guess would be that 1997 is the last year of the A-body suspension usage.

This is off topic, but there are cradle braces in the U-body cradles which improve handling on A-bodies. They were originally developed and installed by the factory in X-11 Citations.
