I finally got my car on the road today and it drove nicely I stopped it for about 2 hours and it was raining! I start my car again and its running very wierd. When Im crawling The car will lurch and jump. It accelerates fine with pleantly of power but when im cruising every 20 seconds or so the throttle seems to give out. If i pump the throttle it comes back to life. Also The car sometimes backfires when i pump the throttle. The muffler makes a garggling sound when i slow down.

Could water have gotten into the air filter because of the rain?
Fuel injectors dirty??
timing or o2 sensor faulty?
Spark Wires?

Like i said before It only happened out of the blue.

ANY1 have any ideas on the cause of this???

Since it happened when it was raining, It could be bad spark plug wires or a bad distributor cap. The humid wet air is allowing the ignition sparks to jump around and the engine is mis-firing.

To see if it's the spark plug wires, in the evening take a spray bottle of water and start the car. Spray a mist over the wires. If you see "dancing arc lights" on the wires, They are bad. If you change out the wires and distributor cap, also check the distributor screens. There are two dime size circles with screens in them on the distributor on each side of the ignition module. If these are clogged and dirty, The distributor cap will retain moisture and cause irratic running.

id replace the cap, rotor, plugs and wires.....if you havent done it in a while. also run a can of seafoam through the engine and half in the tank. basicly just a full tune up.

might want to have you cat checked out too.

just replaced the spark wires and cleaned up the cap. Plugs were cleaned fairly recently. I Put water remover in the fuel tank and a new 02 sensor. About a month ago i put injector cleaner in the tank ( If it even works)

Take a look at your coil(s) while you're at it. My Duke had a bad plug wire and there was a nice little trail down the side of the coil winding that turned out to be where my coil was shorting out.

Hope you find the problem quickly!

Are you going to the Fiero Picnic this summer? Look forward to meeting you!
