im putting together my 2.5 fiero, i have a bunch of coil packs in my garage, i know some are good and some are not, they got mixed together over the years. i only need two working packs out of the maybe 10 that i have. my question is, does anyone know a way to test them with a ohm meter and how? i read a write up somewhere and know its possible, but i forgot what the readings have to be for a good coil and the process in testing them. anyone know???

take an ohmmeter and measure between the top two posts on each coil. That should read somewhere between 6000 and 10000 ohms. Then stick some t-pins or paper clips or what have you in the two slots on the bottom of each coil and measure between those. you should get between .6 and 1.2 ohms iirc. Those numbers are just general guidelines but if what you read is somewhere close they'll probably work.

Just use the 2 that check out best some times a coils will be bad or going bad even tho it checks out,, use coils with 1&4 or 2&3 marked on them these are G M factory coils the spark plug wires should be new unless you know old wires to be in excellent shape the fiero need good quality wires because it is one of the hottest engine compartments

If uncertain about coils hook up and observe spark on plug ..open up to .080 observe spark as to color and width// alway ground a spark plug on an eletronic system before you arc !!
replacement coils often go bad because of bad or corroded connections,, check male and female !! be a pervert ,,ream and clean female make sure connection is tight every man liketh a a tight clean connection, I love the extra spark it gives in the male / fiero match up/
the test listed in the manuals is also needed ,,hope you have manual or some one will post photo

Normally the eyeball test works,,some coils will fail under compression..it is as easy to hook up and eyeball as to get out the meter and check I would install 2 and eyeball

Another way is to just slap them on the module, dont put on the plug wires, and have someone crank the engine. You should see a spark jumping between the 2 poles. Just watch it for a few seconds and make sure its regular.
