I am having problems getting my tach to read properly. When the car starts, the tach will jump from 0 rpm to pegged at max. I have been unable to find out where the sensor is for the tach and have therfor been unable to replace it. Would any of yall be able to help me locate it on a 88 2.4 Coupe?

The 2.5L engine on the '87 and '88 uses DIS (Distributorless Ignition System). The tach signal comes off the Ignition Module (white wire) and goes through the C500 then on to the tach. I'm betting it's just a bad tach.

Here is a link to various ECM pinouts that might help you in the future: http://home.att.net/~subzero350/

Also, a link to the 86 Factory Service Manual: http://spad.sytes.net/fiero/manuals/

Anyone have a link to the '88 FSM?

Im prety sure it's the white wire with what looks like a small battery inline, near the spark plug on your left when you pop the trunk (V6).You may have a stray spark jumping from the spark plug wire to your tac filter. You might be able to see it at night. But I allso agree,it might be bad.

As this has been a problem with 2 tachs that can be taken out and put into another fiero and then work properly, I doubt they are bad.
