Daniel's (Green87 here) select cable has melted and he is in desperate need of a new one. He is currently without internet so he asked me to post and see if anyone has one they can part with (for under $100, he's broke right now also) or knows of any car with one that could be used instead (hopefully something available more commonly from a junkyard or parts store). The stock cable is supposedly 70 inches long, something longer would be even better so that it could be routed out of the ridiculous amount of heat from the 3800. He needs to find one by Saturday, if not before, so any help anyone can provide would be more than greatly appeciated.

Thanks on his behalf,
Amber

The best advise I could give you is to go to www.rodneydickman.com and order one from him. Slightly more than $100, but Rodney can have it to you in 1 or 2 days, the cables are of superior quality, and Daniel won't have to go through the failure and replacement process for many years to come.

Heh, the one that melted was a Rodney Dickman cable It wasn't the cable's fault, it just routes badly with his engine swap. The money problem was that he has exactly zero dollars to his name at the moment and I only have exactly $100 I can possibly loan him, otherwise we would have ordered a new one from Rodney.

I think we've found one that hopefully can get here quickly enough. But for future reference, I'm guessing there is no known other cable that can be used?

No. The reason is that the Getrag/5 spd combo was used in front wheel drive cars mostly except the Fiero, and in those cars the cable is only two or three feet long as opposed to the Fiero's 5 or more foot length. The ends of the cable are tranny/shifter design specific, so if adapting cables from another car (and you'd have to find another car with long cables to start with) you'd have to modify the brackets on the tranny and the shifter to work. The only other option is to have cables custom made which is what Rodney did, but that requires quite a bit of up front cost and quantity purchasing to avoid astronomical per unit costs. There is probably not enough market demand to justify making a longer Getrag/3800 specific cable.

Can't get it by this weekend, and probably won't be under $100, but they will make it to any length you want.
