I recently replaced the rear calipers and brake hoses on my 85 GT and was wondering if you
could give me ideas/input on how to avoid brake fluid leakage at the brake hose fitting where
it meets the caliper?

Yes, I used copper crush washers (brand new of course) on both sides of the "banjo" bolt
but I'm still getting brake fluid leakage. And yes, I tightened up the bolt good and tight but
it still leaks. The copper washers I used are exactly the same size and thickness as the ones
that were on there by the way.

Should I change to a thicker washer? A thinner one? A bigger one?
Please tell me of YOUR brake hose blues......

Possibly you've over tightened it and crushed the washers too much or possibly there's a bit of dirt got on there under a washer that's letting it leak.

Get a new brake hose, either stock or a braided one from the Fiero Store.

I had a similar experience. I found that the cast metal sealing surface on the caliper (the area that the copper washer mates with) had some corrosion and would not let the washer seal. This was a remanufactured caliper from Advance Auto. I used a gasket scraper and fine sand paper and cleaned the surface flat and the washer then would seal.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the replies gentlemen.
Yes, I removed the old washers first.
I just put new hoses on there (Wagner)
and since this is a daily driver I'm not going to
stainless steel like on my 86 GT.

Surface areas and nice, new and clean.

Somehow I'm thinking this is an issue of crush washer thickness. (or thinness)

Any more suggestions?
Am I the only guy with the brake hose blues?

I've seen 2 different types of crush washers in years past. One had a smooth surface, the other had little circular lines on the flat surface. I've had better luck with the ones that had the raised lines on the surface. Not a clue where you could get them nowdays tho.

I had the same problem when I replaced a brake hose, the copper washer might be to hard...what I did was tighten then loosened then retighten the bolt 4 or 5 times untill the crush washer sealed, that worked for me,
