Ok, this may sound silly, but how do I get the mounting piece out of this mirror? There's no set screw like on the stock piece. It's a GM mirror with auto dim and a compass.

I wanna just take this mounting piece off and use the one currently on the windshield. Took this picture earlier this week and it's been bugging me.

From that pick it looks like there is a spring clip in there. Tried sticking a small screwdriver in there then sliding the mount out?

Right. you usually stick a small screwdriver or pick up the little slot in the middle between the metal mount and the mirror base and slide it off.

Hmm, I'll have to try again later. I tried to compress that little clip and it won't. Tried to expand the clip and it just moves around. I just hope I don't mess with it and I end up breaking the housing.

I installed a GM auto-dim rear view mirror w/compass on my '86GT a couple of weeks ago. I used a small channel lock pliers to depress the clip. Worked fine for me.
