Looks like my income will be inproving somewhat by summer, so instead of keeping my 84 SE, I'm thinking of selling and trying to find something more in tune with my desires, say an 88 with a 3.4 twincam & 5 speed. So, what should I ask for the 84? It's an Iron Duke 4 speed daily driver, 94km, brakes done last year, headlights are stuck up, interior showing some age, undercoated since I got it, white, body good. No pictures until my son teaches me how but the Ford dealer offered me $2300.00 on a trade for a 2000 Mustang last year.

I think that $2300 he offered is probably more than it would likely sell for at this time, the 84s don't sell all that well. I would be surprised if the dealer would be able to sell it for more than that. If you can wait till spring/summer you may have a better chance of selling for decent money.

For sure he was padding the price of the Mustang, I don't think it's worth that much, I'm just looking for a realistic price. It can drive away and should make it as far as you want to go. It wouldn't be my first choice for a cross country trip, but I think it would make it, I 've gone on some pretty long day trips with it. Don't know how it would handle freeway speeds for any length of time though, I cruise at 100-110 k/hr for an hour or so but that's as far as I go.

He wasn't offering you $2300.00 for your car, he was just taking $2300.00 off the already overpriced Mustang.

Dealers, got to love em!

I don't mess with them, but you need to get to their lowest dollar, as if you are paying cash, then tell them, "By the way, how much for my car in trade?". That makes them squirm. I know they have to make a living, but they don't need to make your butt hurt in the process.
