I have a 1988 Buick Reatta that I am going to part out. I want to save the engine for a swap. Has anyone taken an engine from one of these cars before. I was just woundering because of the cumputer issues. I am worried that I would need the body control moduel so the engine would be able to run, and anything else. I would like to use the auto tranny from this car. If there would be any other issues with that. Thanks for your help.

The 3800 , Vin C engines were only about 170 hp and will work with their 4T60 overdrive transmissions or you can convert it to a stick shift. That transmission should have a vacume modulator and a throttle pressure cable. The next series up 3800's were over 200 HP. The install is the same. The transmission if it is still good is a good item to put in a Fiero with a Cadillac 4.9, a 2.8, or just about what ever you choose. Good luck with your swap. There are lots of folks here that cam help you with issues that will arise.

Any engine swap should have the PCM edited, and items such as the body control moduel deleted (along with a few other things).Fast Fieros can do this for you (lots of info on his web sight).

Thanks for the help. I have also heard that there is alot more aftermarket potential for the series one model of the 3800. Do you think that the block would be able to handle the boost on power?
