Any body put one of these in a ride, Fiero or otherwise? Auto dimming, temperature, and a compass. I have found the accessory kits on e-bay also that is the wiring harness and the temp sensor. Where does the temp sensor need to mount? Are the wires long enough? I rode in my daughters car yesterday, and this was a neet little item . Joe

The temperature sensor on most GM vehicles is in front of the condensor mounted to a small crossmember, or to either side of the condensor. GM sensors are not greatly affected by incoming wind, so they can be put directly behind a grill. I have not seen or used an eBay kit, so I'd wager you'd need to run your own wires for the sensor, power, and ground for the mirror.

The kits can be ordered pre-made in several lenghts, 12-16 '. I guess I could just mount it up by the wipers. I was looking some more, and you can get the display colors changed out to just about 8 different colors, including Pontiac Red. Joe

I have one that I got off of eBay a couple of years ago. I mounted my temp sensor right in front of the radiator. I really love the auto dimming function and will not own a Fiero without it.

I installed an auto-dimming mirror in mine and I love it. Easy to wire since I had most of the interior out anyways. I didn't worry about getting the compass/temp model becuase I got a pretty good sense of direction and I can just roll the window down to tell if its hot or cold. The auto-dimming is definately a have to have in a fiero, tho.

I was just messing. My ram pickup has that and I've gotten spoiled with the temp display. I actually got just the auto-dimming only cuz I'm a cheap azz.

Theye are very easy to hook-up but if you wire them wrong, you can destroy the mirror. i have mine (auto-diming only) wired to come ON when I turn on the parking / headlights.

You know another interesting thing you could do with this is get an additional sensor, add a switch to switch between the two. You could install it in the engine bay and read the temps under the hood. Could even move it around and check out what the areas temps are like...

Anybody see the new lincoln commercial? The rearview mirror does all of the above plus a portion of it turns into a video screen when car is put in reverse. Is there anything out there like this in aftermarket?

i would love one of these, even if the temp/compass wasnt integrated int he mirror, my ford explorer has a little module above the mirror, mounted to the roof, where the dome lights are that has the temp/compass in it, and its awesome for long trips by myself, obviously cant look at a map while driving, but if i can rough in the route by direction i can usually figure it out. and the temp is nice to know too.

I won "IT" on E bay this evening, a self dimming, with temperature and a compass display out of a 2006 Yukon for $22.48. I'll get it installed and hooked up and pretty quickly after it gets here. .
I also have an auto dimming mirror with out the compass or temperature display if any body is interested, I have 10.00 in it. I bought it before I learned about these fancy ones. Joe

that gets tied into the bcm for its functions...ive got one from an older buick that gets its info from sensors actually on the mirror and temp sensor on the grill.
the bcm controlls the function of the compass by selecting what zone and part of the world youre in. the auto dim recives its info from the light cell on front and pwer from the bcm. the temp is controlled throught the bcm and auto air controlls.
put that one back on ebay, make some cash and get one from an older car!

My mirror came with the aftermarket park distance control I installed and displays inside/outside temperature and (when in reverse) the distance to any obstacle behind the car (it chimes, too). When not in reverse and with the temp display switched off, it looks just like a normal rear view mirror...
