My ideal swap into a Fiero would be an LNF with an F35 transaxle. The LNF is capable of an increase of roughly 55 horsepower on a computer tune alone, without editing the maximum allowed boost within the system. (Yes, the LNF's turbo is controlled by the ECU, meaning an ECU edit also turns up the boost, increasing power further.) It has been seen that the LNF, on 93 octane, an exhaust, and upgraded intercooler, will produce somewhere around the 410 WHP mark according to Hahn Racecraft. Now - combine that with the fact that the whole engine weighs marginally less than the iron duke, and the whole driveline (when referencing the F35) weighs less than that of the 1984 Fiero, bringing the weight balance forward, and lightening the entire vehicle significantly. What's holding me back with this swap? I've been searching for the past 5 months for a decently-priced LNF, and a good-priced F35, but neither have produced results for me. I have a line on an F35, but still NOTHING on the LNF. The problem with the swap? The rarity of parts. And the fact that you need the entire pedal cluster from the Solstice GXP/Sky Turbo to bring over the electronic throttle control, etc. It's a pain to integrate, and I'm still working on custom fabricating some mounts for the pedal setup, but that shouldn't be too hard when I get the time to buckle down and complete it. (There are other issues, such as wiring (you need to extend parts of the harness) and gauges, but I plan on bringing an entire Solstice cluster with the engine, so that I can maintain the "Pontiac" look of my Fiero. That, and to go from an auto Fiero to a manual, is NOT easy. I've still yet to see anyone get the F35 installed without reversing the shift-pattern, so 1 is up and to the right unlike how it's supposed to be with 1 up to the left.)

Imagine, a 2600 pound package with about 410 RWHP in a mid-engine vehicle like ours. Now it's a matter of buckling down and getting it done.

Backward step. The Solstice has inferior handling and traction to the mid-engined Fiero and I prefer the appearance of the Fiero as well, so there doesn't seem to be any reason to consider this.

As others have said, an Ecotec swap into a Fiero works very well......

My dream swap is actually a fwd LNF out of a Chevy HHR-SS, or a Chevy Cobalt-SS Turbo. Just take the whole setup with everything and put it in the back of a Fiero. I guess I'll have to wait a while until a significant amount of people crash them.
Wonder how expensive that swap would be?

Best thing: That swap would actually be California SMOG legal..

I'm sorry to say, but it's not. It's based on the Lotus Elise. The UK version was sold as the Vauxhall V220. Google it for great Top Gear vids.

There is an Opel built on the Solstice chassis, can't think of the name atm. The exact same car sells in the U.S. under the Saturn brand as a Sky.
