page 2 is mine kukukukuku

The BOV prevents compressor surge when the throttle snaps shut venting to atmos or not is a question of legality and cool factor. Venting to atmos will get you puled over and ticketed most places but it sounds cool and announces to the world this car is not stock the bypass is for emissions of some sort (don't ask me I don't understand) and that way the guy in the mustang doesn't know haw bad hes about to get beet until about 3 seconds after the light turns green

another cool factor is you can eliminate the muffler as the turbo acts as a muffler and clears you for state inspection \m/ ^_^ \m/

Semantics. When the throttle snaps closed, there's energy in both the turbo and the compressed air in the charge piping. You can keep the pressure and dump the turbo energy without a BOV (surge) or you can keep the RPM and dump the pressure with a BOV. Either way you lose energy.

The idea behind recirculating the blow off air is that it has already been metered by the mass air flow sensor. If you dump it to atmosphere, you have less air going into the engine than the computer things and you'll get a momentary rich spike which will make the engine bog when you get back on the throttle after a shift.

A friend of mine who's running DSMLink is using a GM MAF DOWNSTREAM of the turbo. I think he vents his BOV to atmusphere, but it's upstream of the MAF between the sensor and the turbo.

I've got a question for you guys.
Could I use a supercharger from the new Chevy Cobalt SS?
I have a friend that is giving me one for free, "in the box", brand new.
I know mods will be needed, and a custom intake and all, but will this size of supercharger be a waste of time?
I also have a friend who is a machinist and would be able to make an adapter for me for the intake.
Thanks in advance.

My question relates to Safastro's but is more generic. After the battery is relocated to the front of the car isn't it's original location a good spot for a belt-driven supercharger? Maybe only a small one? It's right at the front of the engine and an intake could easily be cut through the small lower panel behind the passenger side door. I'm super/turbo ignorant and just trying to figure stuff out, but this seems sensible to me.

i wish i would have seen this thread a long time ago. goatnipples, have you ever been in a csc car? i'm going to say you haven't. having had every type of power adder on my mustangs i can tell you it was the fastest of the superchargers. hands down it would kill the kenne bell twin screw. the turbo was only faster because i was pushing 22-24 lbs out of a t6 framed 88mm. then it wasn't even fun to drive because it was on off. the csc setup is great because the powerband is smooth. you hold traction and just keep putting the power to the ground.

to answer the question i think it's a m62 off that car and you sig says 350 conversion. complete waste.

Here is the article that Will was talking about earlier. They tried turbos, a roots, a centrifugal charger, and a twin-screw charger all on the same engine.

I recommend that everbody read it.
