Moved from Airdrie (just north of Calgary) to Ft Mcmurray, fiero made it to Red Deer. Looking for shop to install n/a 3800 engine, in Calgary or Red Deer or Edmonton. Edmonton would be my first choice, car had busted connecting rod when left Airdrie did not sound to bad, by the time I was getting close to Red Deer. Sounded like real loud tractor, at friends shop currently in Red Deer. Already checked with Troy in Red Deer he said way to busy. Any help would make my day, if anyone has had this swap done somewhere in Alberta. By someone who has done this swap before, and knows what there doing. Car is a 4 speed, not sure if should use or change to 5 speed.

Drive a Fiero?? Bah! What do you need that for anyway?? I thought you guys in Alberta all rode horses!! LOL
Seriosly, all fun aside, I hope you get it going. Breakdowns while moving must be the worst kind to get. Besides, this pic is apparently from Calgary, not from Fort Mac.

there is no one in Edmonton that I know of (or can recommend) to do your swap - everyone here have done their own swap (with the exception of the fellow that bought PBJ's old car - which I have yet to see here in town).
Sorry I can't be of much more help...

I have a 2.8 with 50,000 miles on it I pulled from my 88GT if you are interested. I know these are probably a dime a dozen although mine ran perfect. I just wanted more umph and thought a N* would be about right. Dave.

Hey man, if you're planning on doing a swap my best recommendation would be to aquire all the parts to do it yourself. I'm planning a 3.4 DOHC swap into mine over the course of a year, but a 3800 will be a bit more work for ya. Grab an extra cradle, get it all setup with the harness and everything, and when you are ready to do the changeover it shouldn't take more than a weekend to do if you planned for it, have everything in place and ready to be swapped in.
I agree do the swap your self and just farm out what you can't do. If you get stuck ask questions and do a lot of research first. Get ahold of Tim in Ponoka he has finally gotten his 3800SC swapped Fiero home after a long bout of crap with the shipping company. Basically if you are capable of pulling your Fiero engine you are capable of doing this swap. Dan
ohh man sorry to hear your car crapped out..that kinda sucks..if your gonna pay gm to do it i would really think twice about tackling it yourself...it wont be cheap...or sell off what you have and buy a swapped car...i just couldnt justify a big huge swap bill from gm and still only have a 3.4PR... but thats just my personal opinion..good luck whatever you decide...tim

Gm said they can do a 3.4 swap, if it comes down to that I will have to go that way.
I'm surprised to hear that - since the 3.4 has the starter on the wrong side of the block (maybe they don't know??). PFF members who have bought the 3.4 crate engine invalidated their warranty when they drilled the new mounting holes for the starter. Will they still honor the warranty just because they did the drilling?
I don't doubt they CAN do it, just worried you'll be hit with lots of "extras" once they get into the job and find out that it isn't a direct R&R swap. Ask lots of questions about what's included in the install, what's extra, and how they will handle the required modifications before signing your car over.

Just moved, not sure where paperwork is they gave me. Pretty sure it was for 3.4 engine, said on paperwork also popular swap for s10 truck. Quote was for engine out of the states think was around $2500.00 for just engine. Im guessing they will only put in there GM engine and not rebuilt engine, or junkyard pull supplied by customer.

Found paperwork they recomended Ht 3.4 v6 says direct replacement for s10,s15,blazer, and jimmy. Not seeing anything about fieros, maybe I can use this to my advantage. If they order wrong engine, discount new engine??? Ask them whats the hold up, are you done yet. Price they quoted me was $2413.91 just for engine I assume? Not sure what side starter is on this engine, hard to tell from pic.

dude for the 5 to 6 g your gonna drop to have this done by gm i would seriously consider other options...i see many headaches and extras that are gonna cost you lots before its all said and done....tim..oh yeah a quote is always subject to chamge unless you get it on paper...

The starter will be on the wrong side for that motor. Fierosound is right about the warranty being voided. Personally, I wouldn't use GM to do the work and I suspect that whomever you spoke with doesn't know the first thing about what it would take to put one into a Fiero.

Not to many options with car in Red Deer, me in Ft Mac, and friends shop I have my car at, he wants it moved ASAP. Will be cheaper to get fixed in Red Deer than Ft Mac even if it is at GM. Not sure what else to do??? Will D&W do this swap in Calgary or did fiero sound just have them do some engine work?

D&W is just an engine rebuilding shop. There is no "Fiero Factory" type of shop anywhere here. Your best bet is to store your car somewhere until you can work on it when you are not rushed for a solution. Any shop that does agree to do any swap will be charging you big bucks for their "learning time" since most won't have a clue about working on a Fiero.
Load it on a truck or train and send it to me, I can get you a good 3800SC engine, tranny, PCM and harness for around $1,500 add in $2,000 for my labour and your have a nice 3800SC powered Fiero. So for $3,500 plus what ever shipping cost is your car is done, just deal with a reputable shipper. Go see Tim and go for a drive with him in his 3800SC Fiero. By the time GM is done with just a 3.4 you will have well over $6,000 into the car as they charge close to $100 per hour and will charge you for every extra thing they do, you will be paying for their education in engine swaps. Dan
i second that idea...even if you dont want to go 3.8sc, dan does the 3.8NA also...just what ever you preferr...it will cost you about 1g to ship car to dan but if you ask me your are still going to come out less then having Gm touch your car...if your friend wants your car moved get ahold of troy at TRT and see if you can have it dropped there until you decide what to do...troy should let you do that as he is more then accommodating for us fiero owners...plus he is a great guy to boot..just explain your situation...his shop number is 403-341-8769... good luck..tim..
