Is there a commercial product out there to patch our ripped/torn seats like a fabric repair kit? I know they have kits for vinyl upholstery. Right now i have the ever so popular tear on my driver's side seat bolster and i would like to stop the tear from getting bigger.

So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing

I got an upholstery needle & some silver-gray thread and oversowed the tear to keep it from getting worse. It worked well enough, lasted okay until I installed my new Mr.Mikes a couple weeks ago.

You place a piece of material under the rip or tear .place some glue, Material glue is best you are unlikely to have this type glue.ask a family member aunt mom sister or just use elmers or what ever is at hand the glue should be spaced away from the sewing area..the support piece will be much larger than the area repaired.glue half the piece and install under material the foam should apply pressure to support piece.make sure the first halve is securely fasten to seat material before you start sewing,,you do not secure the second half so you can move your finger under the first halve,,Use thread that is the closest color match you can find, unfortunately you must sew some distance from the tear or the thread will just rip loose,,Use a halve moon needle(a sail needle) your female relatives will have or you can buy at fabric shop or wal mart.NOW you can sew around the rip to secure the support material all the way around, with the rip in the center then x sew the material together ,or like most men just sew it together with a z pattern if you have some material from a similar seat cover or a shirt with like material you purchase cheap from a thrift shop, you can use this as a second cover support and across the rip,it will be barely noticible ..Once the material rips it is difficult to save but carefull sewing and patience will give you a passable repair untill you can replace.Any sewing ability enhanses your ability to install a leather steering wheel cover or my favorite a leather shift knob cover.. I like the stock seats and have recovered them with a cheap pull over seat cover that look good (a lot of work)

Once the original seat covers start tearing there is little you can do except replace the seat covers. The fabric is 20 years old, probably sun oxidized and weak. Mr. Mikes leather seat covers are good, however pricey, although the leatherette are much less costly and look as good as the leather. There are several slip on seat covers around that will just cover the tears. Now you may be able to find decent used passenger seat covers to replace the normally beat drivers seat cover or some upholsterer that can repair or replace damaged seat covers. Having a professional do it is $ also.
