Hey guys i got a friend with a problem with his 87 SE. It has 124,xxx miles, and recently he has been having problems with it. A few weeks ago he was at work and it wouldn't start, so I went down to help him out and the car was getting spark and everything, but the spark plugs were a little wet with fuel so i thought he might have flooded it. So i hooked him up my car my pulled him and he dropped it into 1st and the thing started. So we then noticed that his far right spark plug wire was busted and giving the plug random spark, making him misfire and such so we went and picked up some new plugs and wires, gapped them at .60, and put them in. When we took the spark plugs out the far left one was covered in oil and gunk, not on the actual part that creates the spark, but where the socket would tighten it down. Also installed a new air filter, and the little sponge thing inside the air cleaner too. Car ran great till yesterday (about two weeks later), and it wouldn't start when he tryed to go do some running around. The engine cranks and everything, it just won't start. So he rolled down the driveway, dropped it into 1st, and got nothing this time. So he took his other car, and when he got back (about an hour or less) he tryed starting it again and it fired right up. would anybody know whats going on with this thing? Thanks for the help in advance.

87se i assume this is the 4cyl. I had a bad coil do this to me sometimes after running for a cpl of mins wouldnt start for a cpl of hours then would start and run sometimes for a week sometimes 2 mins. Replaced both coils and worked fine but might be able to do just one if he is on a budget. a good test is when it wont start take the blug wires off the terminals and see if it arc's good. Best done at night but dont do it too much hard on the coils.

Or flakey connections. Unplug and replug the wires from the coil and dist.
Might also change the module if you don't find anything else.
