So i was thuming thru a magazine at work today and for some reason thought of the mail mans truck as it drove by.. and started lookin into this.. they use the 2.5 also..and was wounderin what the advantages or disadvanges were to that engine???
The 2.5's were installed into a varity of cars and trucks, Jeeps, AMC Spirit and others but the strangest mix is the earily Dodge Dakotas were available with the GM 2.5. I think that most of the parts interchaneg however I don't if the bellhousing pattern is that of the front wheel drive cars or the SBC pattern.

Wait those new vans might be front drivers. If so you might be onto something. They would probably be a truck variant engine, and therefore have the beefier main cap webbing. and should have a fwd bellhousing.

The early Dakots's were installed with the Chrysler 2.2L and 2.5L SOHC engine not the 2.5L GM. The Jeeps, however, were.

If you are going to that then look for these things. Is it DIS or Distributor? Does it have provisions for a side mounted water pump? If you get lucky enough and one is in the shop with the pan off look at the main cap webbing.

I know a guy who did just that - he asked his carrier if he could see under the hood. Evidently the carrier popped the hood for him and left it open for him to examine while he made his rounds. An Iron Duke it was!

Mail carrier vehicles are beat to crap from stop and go driving, so unless recently rebuilt I wouldn't think there'd be any advantage.
AAHHH!!! But a sturdier block and crank that come at a cheap cost would be great to have. Again the questions needing to be asked are if the main cap webbing are like those of the truck blocks? Is it a fwd bellhousing? And does it have a side mount water pump provision? If the crank is beefier that's a plus.
