In what year did they start using a 5 speed in the 2m4? I seen a car today sittin in the yard and the guy said he thought it was an 85 but I didnt think they used 5 speed til 87. Anyone know for sure? The car has a wing with a third brake light under it and a gray racing stripe from the nose to the rear with 2m4 on the deck lid in the stripe. The rear wing is thinner than most of the wings I've seen. I thought it could be an 88 but he cant find the title right now. Any ideas?

Yes, the good news is you don't need any information about transmissions or the title to determine the year of that Fiero or any other Fiero. The 10th digit of the Fiero's 17-digit VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) visible on the driver's side of the dashboard designates the model year:

  • E = 1984

  • F = 1985

  • G = 1986

  • H = 1987

  • J = 1988

Incidentally, the 5th digit of the VIN designates the model of Fiero it was:

  • E = Base Coupe
  • M = Sport Coupe
  • F = S/E
  • G = GT
