So, I may get a much needed red hood from a fellow PFF'er, but his bright red code from 86 is 8553 and my 88's code is 8774.

I have searched around here and found that the code for the 86's was also 8774, but his car clearly has the code 8553 on the fender well. I guess some of the 86s came with a different color bright red?

If so, does anyone know how close the colors are?

Thanks in advance!

If I recall the 87/88 bright red was a slightly lighter/brighter shade. Since red is one of the colors that tends to fade and change quickly, It might be close enough to the 84-86 bright red to not really stand out.

I guess I should just take the headlight cover over to his house to see if it matches.

Thanks!

If its a different WA number, its a different formula. Ive seen same codes for different years like 74U that were different colors for same code, but never seen a WA numbers different for the same color. It may be something very subtle, but its not identical.

As I understand it, the 84 and 85 bright reds were supposed to be the same.
It changed in 86 and was not available in 87 (except for two cars that sneaked through.)
The 88 was supposed to be the same as the 86 but, for the cars I've seen, the 88 looks a little brighter.

Having said all that...
I've bought 88 red replacement parts for my 88, and the shades are noticeably different.

Several of the body panels on my 88 are slightly different shades and it's difficult to notice, even if you're looking for it.
(The front fender, above the molding, is a little darker than the door. Can't tell at all in the pics.)

Hey Raydar- I like your spoiler. Where did you get it and did you install it yourself? I think it looks awsome!

Sorry. Changed the pic.
This one?

Thanks!
It came from IRM, about 10 years ago.
I installed it. It bolts on. Due to warpage, I had to grind on the bottom of it, a bit, to get it to lay flat.

Having said all that...
IRM was purchased by Fiero Warehouse www.fierowarehouse.com -aka Doug Kinney (and his fiberglass wizard, Sage.)
I expect that current ones are better quality.
