I need to rerun the antenna wire, it's just too short and I suspect fraying at the connection point (although I haven't quite looked yet). A couple of questions confront me:

Gauge and composition of wire, connector types on the ends?
Length of the stock wire
How the wire's routed.

I have the service manual but it's hard to navigate through. If someone could even just point me to a page where all the info is (1986 manual) it would be appreciated.

Gauge and composition of wire: Not exactly sure but 75 ohm TV cable should work.. 50 ohm would be better...
Connector types on the ends: The radio end is what's called a Motorola Plug.. Antenna end.. not sure....
Length of the stock wire: Again..not sure.. but I don't think it's more than 6ft long...more than likely shorter....
How the wire's routed: Goes thru the bulkhead over near the heater core.....

I'll look at my manual when I get home and see if I can find anything else....

You can pick up a 2 foot extension at Radio Shack for a few dollars. Plug it on the end of present cabl, then plug the new end into the radio...

Alright, what gauge wire is this? Oh, and I looked at Radio shack. I asked about an antenna wire extension, they just looked at me funny.

Go to Autozone.com and SEARCH on "antenna".

They also have 144 in. and 154 in lengths.

PS. Antenna wire doesn't have a "gauge" description.

Kind of wanted to do it myself because I couldn't find a short extension. I only need like 6 inches. I already have the plugs and everything, figured I'd solder one together.

Antenna wire is co-axial ("co-ax") cable. You can make your own lengths, but there are special tools and fittings that will cost you more than the $10 it would take to buy the extension and tie-up the excess.

Are you talking the motorola plug ends? I got both ends at radio shack (the only auto parts they had there) for 5 bucks total.

the length of the arial =
300 / the frequency in Megahertz = the full wave length / 4 = the length of your arial
the length of the cable = as short as you allow it to be.
Coax 50 ohms is the best as already said
Solder all your conections, never use crimp on" Crimp on never last more than a few weeks"

Very good, I already have the Motorola plug ends, and they are solder terminal types, not crimp. Awesome, thanks all.
