First, check to see if the EGR valve is stuck. You should be able to move fairly easily by pushing on the diaphram with your fingers. If it's free, check the operation with the engine running. The EGR valve should be opening at part throttle with the engine under load. If you have a hill, or some way to put a load on the engine at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle, you should be able to see the EGR valve open slightly. Of course this requires one person to "drive" the car, and one to observe the EGR valve, preferably from the side, not rear, of the car. If the valve doesn't open, check the vacuum line from the solenoid to the EGR valve. Mine got plugged once, causing an emissions test failure. If the vacuum line is good, I'd try the electrical connector on the solenoid next. I'd unplug it, apply dielectric grease, and plug it & unplug it several times. If this still doesn't fix it, your solenoid is probably bad.

nothing would happen at idle. the vacuum line is "ported" so spraying starting fluid in the line wouldn't get sucked in to the throttle body until you opened up the throttle

i have a random misfire.
and im running rich...

those have nothing to do with the EGR system

will it misfire while just sitting at idle?
if so you can remove one spark plug wire.
ground that terminal on the cap
and start it and just listen for it to stumble. (yes it will have a dead cylinder, but it will still have a rhythm to it)

keep going around the distributor until you get to the one that doesn't stumble.
that's the cylinder that's having the problem.
then take a close look at the common stuff like plug, wire cracked cap.

good luck

newer plugs wires cap+rotor

the misfire isnt repetative.. more random.. and sometimes worse than others. (causing a small rpm drop..)
