Would duals yield an increase that would be worth the cost or would it more beneficial to just run the X-over?

Dan does true dual style exhaust.

My GTP friends are convinced you can make 3800s sound decent with a true dual style exhaust. Its not that easy to do, but its not that hard, you can use the rear manifold on the back side, and a mustang camero header for the front.

I thought about that approach.

So it only sounds better? Is it better than a single 3"?

If you have a "power log" style header on the front, technically you'll flow exhaust better. There is a small advantage to real headers, because they are slightly engineered to "pull" the exhaust through to the exit port.

True duals do work better in some applications. The X over simply gives high volume engines more room to exhale on each stroke. This is especially good for high volume engines.

Practically, true long headers will net more for a Fiero than true duals. A proper length collector into a proper Y into a big enough but not too long pipe will do a good job.

The downside of true duals is added weight due to 2 CATs, 2 Mufflers, 2 tail pipes. The upside is not all that great unless you are building a pretty big engine.

It is a case of pneumatic theory vs. the available space for the design. I've been analysing the space in the Fiero engine bay and I have determined that the only practical way to use true duals is to cut the trunk. But hey, there are smarter guys than me on the forum. Maybe somebody else knows something I don't.

If I were running true duals, I'd run just cats OR mufflers - not both. Then you can keep the trunk no problem. That or try to find an import style muffler that will fit at the rear bumper.
