Here is an alternative method to bleed your hydrolic systems that I've come up with over the years. It can be done alone without a helper. Here is a list of things you need:
A. One foot length of clear plastic hose that fits and seals over the clutch/brake bleed screw nipple. This can be found at most hardware stores such as Home Depot B. A small, clear liquid container. Empty salsa or jam jar works. So does a 16oz soda bottle. C. One quart of brake fluid of your choice. D. Box end wrench appropriate for the bleed screw you are using.
Method:
1. Place box end of the wrench over the bleed screw. 2. Place one end of the hose on the nipple and the other end in the liquid container. Be sure that the end of the hose reaches the bottom of the container. 3. Crack open the bleed screw just enough to see fluid enter the clear hose. 4. Top off the clutch/brake master cylinder. 5. Depress the clutch/brake pedal and hold it for 2-3 seconds. Do this 3-4 times. 6. Examine the clear hose. 7. Repeat 4-6 until there are no more bubbles in the hose. 8. Close the bleed screw.
If doing brakes, continue with the other 3 wheels in the order that the repair manual says to do them.
This method is simple and easy. There is no danger of air being sucked back into the system as long as the other end of the hose is in liquid. One foot is long enough to prevent any old fluid in the bottle from going back into the system. Also, one foot is long enough to ensure that there is no more air in the system when the hose has no more air in it.
Excellent post! first rate tip,I use this method tip//raise front end and use one way bleeder if stuborn,I drill hole in peanut butter jar cap, no tip over,, a rate for this simple effective tip which I complicated
