I have an LED third brake light I'd like to mount on the shelf in back of the seats inside the rear window of my 85 notch back. What is under that shelf ? I need to put use sheetmetal screws to mount it and act as ground. I might also need to drill a hole for the wire or the positive feed from the brake light circuit. Also need a near by feed for the brake circuit.

I'd like to keep it simple but want it reliable too.

IDEAS ???

All advice greatfully accepted. Thanks in advance.

does your car have a stock 3rd lite (86 +i think did)
if not why not upgrade to that and do LED's in it?
in my car i have 5 LED's put into the 3rd lite in a strait line, the previous owner did it, so i dont know much about it, but i could get pics if you want

85's didn't have the third brake light. There is sheet metal underneath that so you shouldn't have a problem. Here is the best pic I have right now of my 85GT. I will get a better one tomorrow and post it for you on sunday. The carpet is completely out right now. I would suggest mounting it to the roof if you can though. The fiero sits pretty low and bigger trucks still wont see it if they are close. Either way good luck.

Just Sheetmetal, that's what I was hoping.

Thanks !

Now that wire bundle wouldn't happen to have a brake light feed hiding in there, would it ????

If I had my manuals handy I could probably figure it out but a "friend" borrowed them some months ago. (my problem)

Thanks

The wiring bundle shown is the one that has the tail light wires in it.

with it being a notch back, you will have to run an independent power wire from the brake light switch at the pedal to the LED light.
otherwise if you tap into the left brake light wire it will flash when you have the left turn signal on.
same goes for if you tap in to the right brake light wire.
