On my car, '85 Automatic trans, cruise control, there are 4 wire connectors on the top of the pedal. There are 2 lower black connectors, and 2 white upper connectors.

My question is specifically, what is the right side, upper white connector for? I assume the cruise control, but what specifically?

I found out that it gets power from the main gauge cluster through a pink/white wire, and then sends it out to a purple wire that heads towards the engine compartment.

Whatever that switch controls, is the source of an electrical problem that I am experiencing.

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

So far this is what I've found and it ain't much. I'm still trying to figure out where those wire colors are going.

Three switches,
1. Torque converter clutch cutout; disengages the TCC when the brake is pressed, cuts 12V from going to the transmission
2. Brake lights; cuts power to the brake lights when the brake is released (or supplies power when the brake is pressed, depending on how you look at it)
3. Cruise control cutout; Cuts power from the cruise controller module as well as cuts power from the Vacuum solenoid for the Cruise (for redundancy) when the brake is pressed.

Specifically, if you say the wire is purple, then I am pretty sure it is the top one on the list, The TCC cutout.

Must be, I have the connector in question disconnected from the brake switch right now and both my brake lights AND cruise control still work perfectly.

I guess I'll have to rip apart the engine compartment wiring harness this weekend to find that short in the purple wire from the brake switch!!!

Thanks, +'s have been handed out accordingly!
