Well I've got good news, bad news, and wierd news. We read the resistance from the socket ground to the ground on the fender. 0 ohms, we read it all over the car, 0 ohms, my entire chassis has no resistence, which is good. We put in 2 brand new identical 1157 bulbs, it didn't change, then the passanger side began to do what the drivers side was doing. Then my other friend showed up with the 2 $15 LED 1157 bulbs, they were both dim when the parking lights were on, then would brighten when the turn signal was turned on, but would not flash they just stayed bright. So we put back in the new OEM style 1157s, they both WORKED perfectly!!!! so then we put in one LED in one side, the OEM side worked, the LED didn't. Then vice versa, the LEDs didn't work. But the OEM style ones do. So did the car like reflash itself or something? My neighbor suggested that my power wires could be kind of questionable, like the wire is deteriorating inside the rubber coating. So tomorrow I am going to spend $3 and get OEM style halogen 1157 bulbs with the amber glass, hopefully those will work. I am bummed my expensive LEDs don't work, but I am super happy the turn signals work, only problem is I made my own clear corners so I need to buy those bulbs that are amber.

Here was our idea though, cut the socket off, and follow the power wires as far as we can get to them, and cut it off. Then put in new wire from the source to the socket. The socket is fine, the bulbs are fine, the ground is fine, the power is just shaky.

Someone suggested that it is the switching mechanism in the steering column, mine seems awfully loose. Do these tend to wear out?

at this point you can get one of the electronic flashers Hudini mentioned and you'll be all set with the LED bulbs.

Do I need 1 or two electronic flashers? Where do they go? How do I put them in? Can I have detailed info on that? I am ticked I dropped the cash for them and they don't work.

Like Buddy said. If you put in LED bulbs you have to get the electronic flasher. The LED bulbs don't draw enough current to make the regular flasher unit work right.

If you want the electronic ones you just need to goto a parts store and tell them you want a turn signal AND a emergency electronic flasher.

If you look up under the dash I know the one is on the left side of the steering column. They look just like the picture of the electronic one posted above except they are usually white or yellow. In the Oooold days they where silver metal.

Just turn on your turn signal and follow the clicking sound and you will find it. They just unplug and plug in the new one.
The same for the E-flasher. Just follow the sound.

Learn something new everyday. I did not realize there was a separate flasher for the hazards but there is as Dodgerunner said. Just checked the FSM and saw the hazard flasher supposed to be near the blue dingy thingy.

Hmmm so I need two then. Can someone find the cheapest ones online? I would do it but I don't want to buy the wrong ones.

you probably dont need two.
the one for the hazards will probably still work.
turn on your hazards lights and see if they blink.

so you only need one.

if you have a NAPA near you the part number you want is EL12. should be around 10 bucks.

Might try to make a jumper wire and tie it to the ground on the right side for jus a moment to see if that makes any difference. You should be able to use a test light to a hot wire, then attempt to use the left ground wire to see if the test light comes on bright. If not the ground is still bad. It should be good and brite if it is making good contact.

Just went to pep boys an EL12 is $9.99, are you guys sure this is why the LEDs won't work? I so should I put in the LEDs and try the hazards with or without the EL12 in the signal flasher.

Yup 100% that is why LED's dont work in a older car. The other side benefit is that your blinkers will flash faster, more like a new-er car.

Bad part is that if a bulb burns out (Yes LED lamps do burn out no matter what people tell you, it just takes longer) you will not know it's burned out until an officer gives you a ticket.

Well not my turn for problems. Got to church tonight, turned off the lights, lights go down, left motor just keeps running. Darn, there goes a gear.....
I was meaning to clean and check that one after I did the right one....
Now it's either fix it or start my conversion to the Gen2 lights I have. Hummmm?

Thanks for the diagrams, I got the flasher in, it was really easy. The LEDs turned right on and work fine, I didn't replace the flasher for the hazards but they still work so I guess thats a plus. Here are pics and a video. The LEDs are from ebay, flasher is from Pep Boys, and the housings are homemade lexan units. I will sell kits for $1,500... hey I need to finance my 3800SC somehow.
