My turn signal lever broke off from the column and I am having difficulty replacing it. Someone linked two sets of photo instructions to an earlier post dealing with this problem. The instructions seem to suggest that after removing the turn signal canceling cam and upper steering column shaft bearing spring that the turn signal lever can be pulled straight out without having to remove any more from the column. Is this true? If so, my next question is this. I don't have an arm to pull out, just the broken piece that remains inside the wiper switch. My idea is to drill a small hole inside the broken piece so that I can insert an instrument to pull the piece out. Any suggestions?
Where did it break? If you have a stub sticking out of there, grab it with a pair of pliers and pull quickly and it will just come out. They kind of snap into the switch itself. The problem comes if you have cruise and then you have to thread the new cruise wire down through the column and that requires removing the steering wheel and lock plate. If you just have the switch/wiper switch, they just push in and out of the socket on the switch.

I had one do that to a friend once. He used a small drill bit and drilled into what was left of the stalk only slightly and pulled it out with the drill bit still in it. You shouldn't have to go in but just a little bit. Just enought to bite into it.
Do you remember if your friend had to remove the steering wheel, lock plate and so forth?
Thanks, Paul Bolden
No, he didn't have to remove anything. Just drill into whats left of the stalk(make sure thats what your drilling), not to deep. With the drill bit embeded into the stalk pull it straight out and the stalk piece should come with it. It doesn't take much to pull it out. It didn't take him but 10 min. to do.
Josh was right on the money. If you're not dealing with cruise the darn arm simple pulls out. I used a 3/32" cobalt bit...drilled into the broken piece about 1/4"...applied a slight amount of downward pressure and pulled the broken piece out...suctioned out the metal bits from inside the turn signal switch compartment and slid the new arm into place. 6-1/2 minutes from start to finish...didn't even break a sweat!
Thanks again folks, Paul Bolden
