I'm beginning a rebuild on my son's 84 SE Iron Duke. I was thinking about porting the head and throwing in a cam, just to give him a little oomph. I know I read somewhere, or maybe was talking to someone, that the S10 head was a good swap on the Duke. It seems I also recall that this can't be done on the earlier years? 84, 85 maybe no?!

Anybody have some facts on this swap?

85 GT newly acquired, just on the road
84 SE son's car, loaded, clean

"Keep in mind most of this specific post is for 87 and later L4. As many know, the L4's had multiple major changes in 87-88 that carried thru End Of Life for this engine." -theogre

Thanks for the quick feedback. That was the info. I was looking for. Plusses for both of you. I guess I'll just do a standard porting job, find a cam, and boost it as best I can without getting crazy.

(Kid's got a lead foot anyway, so the 4's just fine for him now)!
