Simply offset is the distance between the mounting face of the wheel and the inside of the wheel rim. The higher the offset the further "in" the wheel will set.

Like duckhunter says, Offset is the distance between the mounting surface of the wheel and the centerline.

FWD cars tend to have a lot of offset as the mounting surface is very close to the front of the wheel. Old School "Deep Dish" wheels have zero or negative offset.

The Fiero is setup like a FWD car as far as offset goes. So are the newer RWD cars like the Corvette and 4th gen F bodies.

For a Fiero you need about 35mm - 40 mm of offset in general. An 88 will need a bit more in the front to look right.
