So yeah, a little while back I bought a couple accessories for my ' 85 SE, problem is, when I finally get on the road and plug one of them in, I hear this sort of "snap" sound from somewhere inside the car... I take it out of the lighter outlet, and go to plug my radar detector back in... I get no response from it at all.
Several times over the next month or so, I plug the detector back in, and still get no response from it... But the light in the lighter outlet is still on... So I'm left scratching my head until recently when me and my dad were able to take a volt-meter and test it out, turns out there's no voltage getting to the lighter outlet, but it's still getting to the light.
So I pull the lighter assembly from my ' 86 SE and swap 'em around... Still nothing. Check the fuses, and bingo, there's a blown Yellow - 20 fuse. Replace that, voltage is getting to the lighter assembly, and the horn works again... But the light inside the outlet has gone out now, what's up with that? It used to work up until then.
My next problem is there is still no response from my radar detector, and I tried plugging it into the lighter outlets in both my Dad's and Mom's cars... Nothing both times.
So can any of you guys think of anything I might have missed, or done wrong with the swap that would cause this sort of thing... If so, I'd really appreciate it... Also, if I've somehow left out any piece of information that would help, like what sort of detector I have, or some details on the lighter assembly swapping let me know, and I'll add that in.
I'm really terrible with electrical problems... I'm a fair bit better with mechanical stuff, but electrical is definately not my forte.
Thanks in advance for any and all help you can give to this situation.
