i just finished my 2.8 rebuild and now its on to the wiring. everything looked good but for some reason when i touched my - batter contact it started arcing the the light green wire that goes to the starter started smoking. is there any way somebody can tell me which wires should go where. im probably gonna sound stupid but this is how its set up: the red positive wire is hooked up to the large bolt on the starter solenoid, there are 2 ground wires also hooked up to the same terminal (3 total-+ batt. cable, brown & black wire and black and light green wire) and finally there are 2 red wires hooked up to the small terminal on the solenoid. is this right? and if not what wires go where. any info would help out a lot. after 5 months im so close to hearing my baby fire up again and i wanna do it tomrrow morning! thanks everyone!

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!
there is only 1 wire on the large ternminal!!!!! the battery only!
the other 2 wires with the large lug holes go to the bellhousing ground bolt. there are also 2 grounds that attache to the tranny side of the head above the starter.

the small terminal has 2 wires, but on mine they were spliced in to the same lug.
I'll see if I have my dissasembly pics to link you to so you can see it...

NO?

As tjm4fun said, sounds like you hooked the grounds (BR&BL, BL&LG) to the positive cable. They go to the drivers side of the front head.
