I know it has something to do with the brakes (duh) but what does it really do..reason i ask is because the other day i opened the front hood to fill my washer fluid and check my coolant level and i noticed that it was unplugged...who knows how long ive been driving it like that? i never noticed a problem, other than normal crappy fiero brakes, i plugged it back in and still dont notice a bit of a difference..whats it do then?? thanks all. is it bad that it doesnt make a difference. btw its the plug with the 2 wires comming from the master.

Not the brake light, it has to do with the master cylender failing, Uneven pressure in the front to rears is noticed and the little brake warning light comes on in your dash panel. Pressure differential switch.

Probably unplugged because it was tripped at one point, if i recall correctly those are kind of a pain to reset.

That is the pressure differential switch on the combination valve ( aka proportioning valve) which lights the Brake Warning light when it detects a leak in either a front or back caliper. Page 237 of the FSM. If the switch was unhooked you should have a brake warning light staring you in the face. Check the bulb is the first order from the FSM although I can't recall ever seeing mine.....

The combination valve has a proportioning section to assure you have at least front or rear brakes in the event of a brake line failure on one system. A failure trips the proportioning valve allowing full pressure to the good system then lights the Brake warning light. The only way to reset the light is to fix the leak then apply 450 psi line pressure by pressing the brake pedal. (push it down kinda hard)

The E-brake has a switch to turn on the warning light when it's pulled up. So you don't drive around with the E-brake on, lol.

450 psi is not hard to get. I've heard 1500 psi is about normal for a panic stop. The SS braided hoses are rated at 3000 psi.

Is your BRAKE warning light on now? I think you are right in that the warning light and E-brake light are the same thing.

True there is only one brake light for both functions. The brake light sould be on anytime the ignition is on but the car is not running.
