Ok, So after riding around in my dad's 72' stingray today it just made me wish my stock fiero could pull all the way through third gear. Well my dad's friend has a 1982 buick grand national that is pracitcally free. It was hit in the rear by a dump truck and has set since and he is looking to get rid of it. I was wondering what motor is in it the only thing I know is that there is a performance cam and its bored over like .6 i cant remember I just know it began with a 6. So could I get a little info about the motor and would it make for a good swap into my Fiero. (It has less than 20,000 miles on it)

'82 Grand Nationals had a 4.1 normally aspirated V6 rated at 125hp - hardly worth considering putting in a Fiero. This was not the engine that made the GN famous (that was the turbo 3.8 that came out in '84 - even then the best ones are the '86s and '87s).
On a different note - 1982 was the first year for the Grand National - and if my memory serves me right, they only made 215 of them - and they were not black. So that is a rare car!

Yea my dad gave me the wrong year its a 83 with the 3.8 Super charged. So can some one give me an idea of how much power its going to have if its bored out .6 something and has a performance cam in it?
Edit: I know im going to need a new transmission more than likely a 4T60, but what else am I going to need?

Are you sure about the transmission bolt pattern? I know that the pontiac GN OD transmission is a direct bolt-up for the pre-corporate Pontiac engine. The bolt pattern for the pre-corporate Pontiac engine is not compatible with the Chevy V8 engine.
You might want to check with Pontiac Street Performance site (http://psp.aquacomp.net/)

the previous owner may have put a 3.8sc in it b/c he did say the engine was rebuilt a while ago... could have rebuilt it so he had a fresh engine for his engine swap

AFAIK: 86-87 had the Intercooled 3.8 SFI Turbo 84-85 had the non-intercooled 3.8 SFI Turbo 83 was a 3.8 Turbo w/ carbureator, I believe 82 had the 4.1 V6

A trubo 3.8 out of the nationals is a good engine. Zero turbo lag. But beware, they have very small crank journals and can be prone to failure. In my experiance anyways. I say go for it!

the GN was carb untill late 86 and had some knock and low hp numbers compared to the 87 intercooled with fuel injection. They use the BOP transmission so I don't think you will have much luck unless you get an adapter. My words of advise " Get a camaro, monte carlo and drop that bad boy in with a intercooler and fuel injection and make the best out of that engine on a RWD car.
