I added a larger 5.25 speaker to it and after using all my software for speaker designs on it found that if you cut off 1/2 inch and also lightly stuff the port tube with polyfill and cover the end with a large mesh screen you get a perfect port match on the woofer and bring the cabinet curve way higher to match what the woofer really wants.
I'm using the parts express "better" woofer as listed in the above threads that seems to always be on backorder for 3+ months. but it is so worth it waiting for that speaker.
BTW: the secret trick I used to get an exact volume measurement of the stock woofer enclosure is to fill it with water (plug the port hole) and then measure the amount of water. After that the subwoofer design software was happy to help get things tuned right. with the tube in place and adjusted like I said above, I get a smoother peak around 100hz.
If you want the box to thump really hard you can try to isobarik the box, but that will have the second speaker magnet hanging down int othe passenger footwell.
