My Fiero is slow off the start. First second and third gears seem fine but when your going 35 mph or higher and you step on the gas the car doesn't jump forward it just slowly picks up speed. My father-in law is a retired mechanic and he said he's sure it's my catalytic converter. He said that because I only have 35,000 original miles on it and the fact that they"re city driving he'd bet that the converter is plugged. I'm going to replace the converter, anyone know what converter I need?

Easiest http://www.rodneydickman.com/retail.html Look under the "Engine" tab, then choose the cat style you need.
Also: http://www.fierostore.com/Product/Browse.aspx Look under "Exhaust" and "Cat. Converters"

I recently put Rodney Dickman's catalytic converter on my car, and as Hudini alluded to, installation is a snap. Also, Rodney's is a COMPLETELY stainless, relatively unrestrictive cat. Even the PIPES on his, which connect the cat to the remainder of the exhaust system, are stainless (unlike another cat I once bought that completely rusted through at its non-stainless pipes).

Thanks guys, you've both been very helpful. I'll order the stainless steel dickerson cat today. I hope that fixes my problem.

I had a similar problem where I could not accelerate past 40 miles an hour. I cut the cat. conv. out and replaced it with a bypass tube that I bought at the auto store for around $8. The car runs good again and I did notice that inside the catalytic conv there were chunks, of what looked like honey combs, rattling around. And it also seems like I am getting 4-5 miles to the gallon better gas milage. That was a plus.
