I was wondering if anyone knew of a safe way to remove paint from the plastic tube that connects the air cleaner to the driver's side in the engine bay. Or any plstic parts. Many years ago I painted it (the tube) with a rattle can . It looked good for a year or 2, then would chip and peel. I started to sand blast it off at the shop I worked at, but left that job and don't have access to the blast box. I have heard that oven cleaner removes paint off plastic car models, but didn't know if it would work on this type of plastic without melting it. Any help would be appriciated. Also what would be the best paint to repaint it with? What about the Krylon for plastic?

I'd recommend sandpaper, especially since you are going to just paint it again. Some 80 and 120 will take care of it in no time.

if it's just overspray that is on it, you can use goo gone. I have found that that works well to remove paint from just about anything.

3M makes a spray "bumper stripper". Made for stripping paint on rubber bumpers. Follow the instructions; always do a test spot before getting carried away...

Thats whats on my intake hose (Red) and 15 months later it looks as good as the day I put it on.---actually, the entire body is done in it now.

The trick with that stuff is clean-clean-clean before painting. I use varsol, mineral spirits, gasoline and finish up with methyl Hydrate. Only problem I ever had with it was it wouldn't cure on the armrests---and later found out thats because its not compatible with vynal.

I use enamel reducer and alcohol myself, after Dawn dish soap and hot water. Mineral spirts and gasoline both have a lot of oils in them.
