After looking at the mounting points on the 3800SC series III alternator, it was decided that a low mount bracket would be difficult to fabricate. As a result we picked a GM alternator which is very easy to mount. It is the one used on the 1996 to 1999 Chevy Astro 4.3L. One mounting point was an "ear" that we fastened to the block with a 10 mm - 1.5 hardened alternator bolt ( and a spacer) , the lower mounting hole is connected to the differential housing via an L channel and the rear mount was a 45* 1" x 3/16" steel strap (with mounting tabs bent) that attaches the alternator rear mounting bracket to the block. The installation lis very neat and looks like the engine came with it.
The only problem is to figure out how to hook this alternator up. It uses the GM 4 pin connector but I can't figure out if this is the unit that uses the internal self exciting voltage regulator (which uses the 4 pin conector but only one wire on it) or the alternator that needs 4 way connector hook up.
I believe that we are are using the 105 Amp CS130D series AC-Delco alternator. Any GM service techs out there know how to determine the hook up? One wire or four wire is the question and how do you know? All help is greatly appreciated. .

We just found it. Believe that this is correct for this alternator but some of these did use only one wire out of the four. .
