Also today after sitting in OH NO IT'S RAINING SO I BETTER DRIVE 30 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY stop and go traffic (idiots in Tulsa). I finally got fed up and took the side streets home. I noticed after stopping and when the car hit around 2000-2500 rpm it would make a howling/squeally noise for a little bit then stop. It got less and less at each light and was not doing it once I got home. Almost seemed like it was caused by vibration. It 's an 86 with a duke and 3 speed auto. Also it was raining a lot today. Any thoughts or should I just be grateful it went away?

Well, you can check the easy stuff like loose exhaust shields. You won't be feeling so lucky if it stopped because something was about to fall off.

Loose alternator belt - makes a racket, doesn't it?

Now that it's been slipping for a while it's glazed and needs to be replaced. Put a new belt on and tension it correctly and your squealing problem will be gone.
